Adults refer to animals or humans which have attained their maximum growth and development. If used in conjunction with human beings, the term "adult" can have meanings that are associated with legal or social ideas. As opposed to someone that isn't considered an adult, or "minor", the legal adult has attained majority, which makes them independent, capable, and responsible. A legal adult can be described as a major. It is generally accepted that the age at which a person becomes a legal adult is 18. It is possible for this to vary depending on legal rights and countries and also on the psychological state.

The lifespan of a human being, adulthood refers to the point in which the person attains full mental and physical maturity. Adulthood usually begins when a person reaches the age of 21. The middle age stage, which begins approximately 40 years of age then follows by an ageing process that can last up to 60 years old. There are three main levels of adulthood: beginning in early the age of adulthood (18 to mid-30s) and middle adulthood (mid-30s to mid-60s) as well as late adulthood (mid-60s up to the point of the time of death). Physical maturation has been completed at the point we are in our early adulthood years (20-40s), although the weight and height may increase slightly. When we reach early adulthood, the physical capabilities of our bodies reach their peak. They include strength of muscles as well as reaction speed.
